Problems - room is dark and outdated, room feels small, furnishings are
uncomfortable.
~
Goals - Warm and cozy family room with storage,
natural light and comfortable chairs
~
Solutions - Wood flooring in a warm finish
replaced the outdated carpeting. The stock mantle
was removed and in it's place went a faux-stone
fireplace.
Crown molding gave the walls a finished look and simple,
store-bought
valances were hung high to allow more light in,
give the room a feeling of height and show off the
woodland view. A new entertainment center in a
light colored finish and an antique trunk provides
plenty of storage. Inexpensive sheers
capture the light, and on the walls, an easy but
sophisticated sponging
technique in creams gives the room an airy feel.
Moderately priced furniture with a luxurious texture
brought in some comfortable seating. A
monochromatic color scheme (all one color in different
shades) was used to make the room appear larger. The result
is a room that is warm and cozy yet full of light.
The Decor Coach can help you find contractors for
fireplace and flooring improvements, choose and hang
inexpensive yet professional looking window treatments and
faux-finish your own rooms.
